Sore Feet, Wage Slave - 2/13/02 - Murhut Falls, Rainbow Canyon, Ludlow Falls
First stop was the alledged "waterfall" in Port Ludlow.  From the pictures I'd seen, I got the impression that it wouldn't be out of place in Kansas (minus all the ferns and junk).  Turns out there is a neat little nature trail which passes a surprisingly pretty little waterfall.  The trail and falls are located at the very east end of Port Ludlow.  First half is nice and wide and paved, leading to a staircase which climbs to viewpoints above the 25 foot cascades.  Second half (loop) is dirt, and more or less parallels clear cuts, but gets back to the trailhead faster.

Brief stop at Falls View Campground for some pics of the Quilcene Canyon, then Rainbow Campground just down the road, where a 1/2 mile trail leads down to the river and a waterfall on Elbo Creek.  The falls turned out to be a complete bust - a whole 10 feet high, but the river is quite scenic at this point, and would make for good wading in the summer.

Murhut Falls off the Duckabush.  I was planning on just having to walk the 3/4 mile trail itself, but a big 'ol tree decided to block the road about a mile before the trail, so that added some additional walking.  Up to this point, it had been more or less drizzly all day long, and I was moderately wet.  After 20 minutes of slow steady uphill, I hit the trail, and plowed through the many many trees which were leaning uphill over the trail, for some reason, and got even wetter.  Some small sporatic patches of snow here (1000-1100')  Made it to the falls in another 10 minutes.  Easily the highlight of the day, both Murhut Falls and the canyon downstream are exceptionally scenic.
