Sacred Datura at Dawn

Photographed on a Sea Kayaking Trip along the Sea of Cortez north of Loreto
Baja, Mexico

March
Nikkor 105 mm macro lens

Each morning, for eight days, we arose from our sleeping bags to pre-dawn blood-red skies, then ate our breakfast, loaded our kayaks and paddled to our next camp -- all before noon when the winds came up. The sacred datura blooms and dies in only one day, so I asked my friends to wait while I spent time photographing this gorgeous flower in the golden early morning light.
