Wildlife Viewing Locations - Twin Ponds

Twin Ponds
Cross the north fork of Thornton Creek and approach the North Pond
  • Morning fog -- hooded mergansers, pied-billed grebes, buffleheads, northern shoveler
  • Native and exotic trees - hollies, Japanese cypress, native willow - belted kingfisher, Bewick's wren
Western trail thru Norway spruce forest

Bridge spanning the junction of the two ponds -- good viewpoint
  • Mallards, american coots, american wigeons
Meadows (past soccer field)
  • Red-tailed hawks, northern flickers, downy woodpeckers
Arboretum
  • Winter wrens, colden-crowned sparrows, rufous-sided towhees, ruby-crowned kinglets, pine siskins
  • 200 different plants -- redwoods, Garry oak, native noble fir, grand fir, mahonia, snowberry, and flowering currants - cover and food for birds
  • Cedar waxwings eating serviceberries
Directions:  from I-5 take the 145th St Exit.  Drive west on 145th, then north (right) on 1st Ave N.  Drive down the hill and park at the south lot on your left, close to the arboretum.  Yuo can also continue to the north parking lot just before 155th St.
