Nature Walks in the Puget Sound Area

Seattle
  • Green Lake
  • Guided birding walks, October through April, first and third Saturday of each month, 8 A.M.
  • Discovery Park 
  • Naturalist-led nature walks on most Saturdays—usually from 2 to 3:30 P.M
  • Camp Long 
  • Park naturalist-led interpretive walks several Saturdays each month,  2 P.M.
Bellevue
  • Mercer Slough Nature Park,
  • Bellevue
    Ranger-led nature walks from January to November, 11 A.M. on Sundays.
  • Lake Hills Greenbelt, Bellevue
  • Guided nature walks every Saturday at 11 A.M. 
Kirkland
  • Juanita Bay Park, Kirkland
  • Guided nature walks on the first Sunday of every month at 1 P.M.
     
     






Tacoma
  • Tacoma Nature Center is a 54-acre wooded wildlife preserve located in central Tacoma.  The park is open daily from 8 A.M. to dusk.  On the grounds are wetlands, nature trails, wildlife observation shelters, feeders, and bridges that span the lake.  The visitor center is open Monday through Saturday and has hands-on nature displays and exhibits for all ages.  Nature education, workshops, special events, and day camps are held throughout the year, including an amphibian event. No admission charge (253-591-6439).
    • Guided winter walks include an evening "Full Moon Walk" in February and a morning "Marsh Madness” in late March. 
Seattle Times

Snoqualmie
  • Cedar River Watershed -- visit the Cedar River Watershed Education Center  in the Cascade foothills near the town of Snoqualmie.  Then take a walk on the 1.5-mile paved Rattlesnake Lake Trail Loop near the education center's parking lot or give your calves and shins a workout on the Rattlesnake Ledge Trail.

  • Yakima Greenway Winter Walk is held every year on the third week in February on the Yakima Greenway, along the Yakima River in Yakima.

Walks Across the State - Rural and Urban
  • Evergreen State Volkssport Association

  • ESVA  or  253-840-1776)
    ESVA events are a great way to take an urban or rural nature walk with other active people young and old. There are more clubs in Washington than any other state and scheduled walks almost every weekend.
    • Late winter nature-oriented Volkswalks are held at locations such as Northwest Trek Wildlife Park near Eatonville; Mission Lake nature trails and nearby Green and Gold Mountains; Ocean Shores (see chapter 9 in Washington Nature Weekends); Pioneer Park and Island Crest Park on Mercer Island; Rails to Trails trail in Orting; and Soos Creek in Kent.
